Jaco Renken appointed lecturer for information and communication technology for development

His new role continues the Institute’s commitment to ITC4D.

Jaco Renken has been appointed to a lectureship in information and communication technology for development at the Global Development Institute (GDI). Jaco has a long history with the GDI where he has been based since 2013. He has previously served as a doctoral researcher into ICT4D and lecturer in International Development: Informatics and Distance Learning.

His research interests include leadership, e-business, social theories and the role of ICT in development. Jaco will continue to work as part of the Centre for Development Informatics and his research will map onto the politics, governance and management research theme.

He recently published a Development Informatics working paper alongside Professor Richard Heeks looking at Data justice for development.

Richard Heeks, Professor of Development Informatics, commented: “It’s great to have Jaco in place as our new Lecturer in ICT4D. ICT4D has been an important Institute focus for some time, and Jaco brings many years of both practical and academic experience to the role”.
