Duchess of Sussex & GDI part of roundtable on higher education

Prof Uma Kothari joined other university leaders, academics, and international scholarship students at an Association of Commonwealth Universities event on Wednesday 5 December. They met with HRH the Duchess of Sussex to explore how higher education can help build a better world.
Attended by the Global Development Institute’s Professor Uma Kothari, the event was an opportunity to discuss the role of universities in addressing human trafficking and modern slavery, gender equality and inclusion, peace and reconciliation, and climate change and resilience.
HRH the Duchess of Sussex attended the event and took part in discussions, building on her interest in the role of higher education in contributing to global issues of our time. Prof Kothari also spoke to the Duchess of Sussex about her work as a board member for the In Place of War project, which is based at The University of Manchester.
The event highlighted the power of higher education to transform lives. Attendees discussed that this power is arguably more necessary than ever before, as and new local, national, and global challenges arise, universities are a critical part of the solution.
